CE (Continuing Education) Units

CE (Continuing Education) Units

We're often asked for a "CE Certificate" because an employee needs a certain number of educational units to maintain some type of license, usually in the medical field.  Most people do not understand how CE units work.

CE units are generally issued at a rate of 1 credit per training hour.

Anyone needing CE units for their job must have these units issued by a provider that is accepted by the employee's regulatory entity. Examples of entities are, California Dental Board, California Board of Registered Nursing and many more.  If a company, like ours wants to issue credits that are "accepted" by the entity, we must pay the entity (continually).   Most training centers, including us, do not pay this fee because it is generally not needed, and there are many entities that we could pay.  Read on...

Dental Assistants and Hygienists
Dental professionals need a number of units in a 2-year period to maintain their license.  The only units that count are those "approved" by the California Dental Board.   The American Heart Association BLS Provider course is accepted by the dental board.  This is the only course we teach to medical professionals so there is no need for us to seek approval from the board.  The board offers up to 4 hours of credit for this course and does not require a separate "CE Certificate".  Each student is issued a course completion card which is all that is required.

EMS Students
Survival CPR & First Aid is authorized to provide CE credits through the Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA).  These CE Credits only benefit Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel, (i.e. EMTs seeking renewal) and are normally only issued during EMT Skills courses and private scenario-based or advanced courses when an agreement for CEs is arranged in advance.

Nurses
BLS (CPR) does NOT qualify for CE credits for nurses.  See memo:
